Initial Ideas

Although I still have a lot of research to do looking at games, books and films - I have some initial Ideas for my re-imagining of 'Feud'.

1) I want to focus on the idea of avoiding the character, preparing, until you're strong enough to fight him. Genre wise it would be survival horror/stealth. Amnesia influenced me in how the character you play is powerless and is forced to run when the enemy is aware of you. I thought that idea would be quite unique because having watched 'Feud', often your enemy twin will appear and you have to run away because you are not yet powerful enough to defeat him, just like the SA-X in Metroid Fusion. These scenes in which you encounter your foe, unaware of your presence, often made you feel uneasy and tense. I thought this would be interesting to look at. I would still keep Leanoric human, but he would look scary to add to the drama.

To give an example, your are walking around your location and suddenly Leanoric appears. You see him and quickly hide, hoping he doesn't catch a glimpse of you, because if he does you will have to run for your life because you are not yet strong enough to contend with him. It could be possible that there is a separate set of controls when 'running away' as I would like it to be more intense with the ability to jump, climb and dive, as if it is a real chase - desperate to get away. The idea is that you are stealthily exploring your location finding various items which will help prepare you mentally, physically (magically) for when you fight Leanoric. It could be possible you set traps for your enemy, in the event of him seeing(chasing) you. I'd like to keep the spontaneity of Leanoric appearing around you, and make it more likely if you are creating things, or making a lot of noise.

I don't yet have a location, time period, genre or style of game it would be as this is a basic idea.

2) The second idea is more fleshed out and quite different. A team of astronauts are going to investigate a Planet in which they have to travel through a field of meteorites. The ship gets struck and you play the mechanical engineer who tries to fix the ship on the outside. Next thing you know - you wake up in a room on what looks to be a ship. It's not familiar because it's an Alien ship. That's the opening, but the general idea is you end up meeting a race that are feuding with one another, and you are caught in the middle of it all. The reason I thought this would be interesting is because it is about a feud, but not one you are directly involved with. Rather you are trying to help. This strays away from the original idea of the game 'Feud' but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

3) A third idea I had was a game set either in the Middle ages or near future.
Middle ages: You play Learic, a soldier/working class citizen, physically scared from war but noble. Leanoric however is prosperous and high ranking in society. The two are twins (or just brothers), yet completely separate from each other and completely contrast one another. The story of the game revolves around Learic meeting Leanoric after being separate for years, and Leanoric welcoming him. All is not as it seems as Learic and Leanoric have completely different views and opinions which soon leads to them feuding with one another. I have the idea of Learic being unable to physically get to Leanoric since he has much more wealth and power. Meaning Leanoric often gives challenges to his brother knowing that he can't get to him, until the final section of the game where you finally vent frustration in a massive catharsis. This idea was influenced by Jack of Blade's from the game 'Fable' because you often see him and converse with him, but your are unable to get to him. The 'Game of Thrones' series in which Jaime Lannister and Ned Stark feud seemed like a great aspect to adapt for my version of the game.

Near future: The story would be similar, although Leanoric is the leader of a global organisation

This ideas are very basic, but I am looking to flesh out the genre and various aspects in due time.

For research I will be looking at some following media:

- Game of Thrones (series)
- Martina Cole's The Take (series)
- The One (film)
- Face Off (film)
- Demolition man (film)
- Tom and Jerry (cartoon)

- Amnesia (game)
- Devil May Cry 3 (game)
- Batman: Arkham Asylum (game)
- Fable (game)

- Batman and Joker feud (Batman comics and film)
- Magneto and Xaivier (X-men comics and film)
